The Laiyuen indigenous community in West Seram, Maluku, is rehabilitating critical land in their customary territory with support from the Nusantara Fund. This rehabilitation is carried out through a community-based reforestation program that replants various local plants such as cloves, nutmeg, and resin. This activity also actively involves youth and residents in preserving their customary forest. The Nusantara Fund is a joint initiative of AMAN, WALHIand KPA which supports independent management of customary areas. This activity also encourages strengthening community capacity and economic development.
“The Laiyuen Indigenous Community is one of the communities proposed to receive the 'Dana Nusantara' program, which is an initiative of the Indigenous Peoples Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN), the Environmental Forum (Walhi) and the Agrarian Reform Consortium (KPA).”
