Strengthening the People's Home of Struggle in Pemayungan Village, Defending the People's Management Area

The People's Struggle House (RPR) is an initiative of the Pemayungan Mandiri Farmers Association (PPPM) as a place to exchange ideas and complaints if criminalization occurs at the grassroots level. By considering the condition and importance of the RPR for the community, PPPM uses the Nusantara Fund Direct Funding to renovate the RPR. The goal is for the RPR to be in a more suitable condition for gathering, discussing, educating, and carrying out collective activities in overcoming problems faced by the community, especially criminalization that targets the community.

This renovation will be carried out from December 2022 to January 2023. The initial stage, namely providing building materials, is quite difficult and time consuming because the terrain being traversed is quite difficult. The round trip journey takes 8 hours, due to road access & quite a long distance (including crossing rivers) as well as unfavorable weather conditions. Therefore, to speed up construction and transport materials to the construction site, the construction process involved 4 craftsmen who were assisted by mutual cooperation of members.

Not enough to stop there, STT then felt the need to build a collective space as a container for various educational activities, ideologization, and consolidation. This place will then become the center of education, discussion, deliberation, women's empowerment, and other joint activities in encouraging and expanding the movement. To this end, at the end of 2021, KPA Jambi Region and STT management held discussions about the plan to build an Agrarian Reform Education Center.

STT and union members held further deliberations and reached an agreement on the construction location in the Tanjung Bringin Hamlet area, Lubukmandarsah Village. In planning the construction of the hall, it was also agreed on the division of work roles and alternative routes that had to be taken to bring building materials considering the unfriendly terrain.

However, by working together with PPPM members, local communities, and WALHI Jambi, renovation work can be carried out well. Here are the physical renovations carried out:

  1. The process of renovating and adding space to the terrace of the building as an open discussion space has been completed. Thus, the terrace space is now more suitable for discussions and community meetings in larger numbers.
  2. The foundation of the house has been repaired and is stronger using bricks and cast floors. Previously, repairs to the foundation were only planned using planks or wood entirely.
  3. The addition of facilities for the People's Struggle House in the form of stationery, archive shelves, and tables, as well as electricity sources through solar panels to support the feasibility and comfort of community activities. Other facility improvements include the provision of clean water supply and toilet facilities such as water tanks with pipes and septic tanks.

The entire activity process in this program has provided valuable lessons for PPPM and the community. That it is necessary to make anticipatory plans for obstacles and unexpected field conditions in every plan. In general, the implementation of the program strengthens community relations and increases members' self-confidence due to external support for the initiatives and efforts they undertake.

The dissemination of information about the renovation of the RPR has increased the level of trust of the Pemayungan Village community towards the PPPM group. That this PPPM group was not only formed for the benefit of the internal group, but also for the entire community of Pemayungan Village, Jambi. If all this time, when receiving reports from the Pemayungan Village community regarding the conflict experienced by the PPPM group, they were still living in the house of the head of RT 07, then after the renovation of the RPR, PPPM and the Pemayungan Village community have a more adequate shared space as a center for complaints, a place for discussion and sharing. knowledge.

The construction of the People's Struggle House also confirms the existence and commitment of the PPPM group as a farmer organization that continues to grow and develop. Internally at the group level, RPR also strengthens the enthusiasm and morale of members to continue to move forward together to achieve the organizational goals of the PPPM group.
