Tambakrejo Fisherfolk's Village, located in Tanjungmas Village, North Semarang District, Semarang City, is a community rich in history and a spirit of mutual cooperation. Located on the coast of Semarang and the banks of the East Flood Canal (BKT) river, the majority of the people of the Tambakrejo Fisherfolk Community work as traditional fisherfolk who depend on the natural resources of the sea and rivers.
Tambakrejo fisherfolk face the challenges of coastal life with determination and solidarity. As fisherfolk, they not only survive but also strive to create a better future through various initiatives and cooperation.
The chairman of the fishing community, the Tambakrejo Fisherfolk Community, was chosen based on his potential and commitment to organizing and leading this community. With an inclusive approach, he ensures that all members, including women and young people, are actively involved in various community activities. Karang Taruna and women's groups take an important role, from planning to selling catches and harvests
One of the successes of the Tambakrejo Fisherfolk Community is the funding that has been successfully obtained from various parties for various programs, including support from direct funding from the Nusantara Fund. This fund is used to buy boats, build educational facilities, and build cooperatives. In addition, they also focus on the sustainability of the marine environment by building fish aggregating devices (FADs), in addition to making fish aggregating devices (FADs), they also make a place for cultivating green mussels using the tancap method.
A FAD-made structure that functions as a place for fish to live. These FADs not only help preserve fish and green mussel populations but also provide fishing grounds that bring in additional income for fisherfolk.
Tambakrejo fisherfolk have big plans to improve the welfare of community members. One of them is cultivating freshwater fish such as catfish, which is expected to provide an alternative income for fisherfolk who cannot go to sea. In addition, Tambakrejo Fisherfolk plans to open a welding workshop, which will provide training and additional employment for community members.
The success of the Tambakrejo fishing community is not only measured from an economic perspective but also from a social perspective. A strong sense of belonging and solidarity among community members creates a mutually supportive environment. The Tambakrejo Fisherfolk's fish aggregating devic (FAD) program has increased the number of fish caught and improved the economic conditions of the community, showing that hard work and cooperation can turn challenges into opportunities.
