KALTIMTODAY.co - AMAN East Kalimantan held a focus group discussion (FGD) to express the aspirations of the Kedang Ipil Indigenous Community in Kota Bangun Darat District. The event, held at the Grand Fatma Hotel on Friday, February 28, 2025, was also attended by the Kutai Kartanegara Regency Community and Village Empowerment Office (DPMD) and the Kota Bangun Darat District Head.

The Kedang Ipil Indigenous Community has completed all supporting documentation for recognition since 2023, including mapping of its customary territory, compiling ethnographic studies, and developing customary structures. Zulkifli, Head of Kota Bangun Darat Subdistrict, stated that the local government fully supports the recognition process. He called this recognition crucial for legal protection and respect for the traditions and culture of the indigenous community.

This FGD also ensures that the process follows procedures without compromising the rights of Indigenous Peoples. Collaboration between the government, indigenous communities, and facilitators, such as AMAN East Kalimantan is expected to accelerate the issuance of the recognition decree.

"We want the indigenous peoples of Kukar, including Kedang Ipil, to feel supported and protected. This is our responsibility to safeguard the cultural heritage and customary rights in our region." — Yusran Darma, Secretary of the Kukar DPMD
