The people of Pulu Village, Sigi, Central Sulawesi, depend on nature for their livelihood. Many people in Pulu Village work as farmers and gardeners. The Pulu Village area is also surrounded by a very large forest, 2.317 hectares of protected forest. However, this geographical condition also often brings disasters, such as earthquakes and flash floods. The frequency of flooding can be once a year in that area.

Accompanied by the Nusantara Lestari Ecology Foundation (Ekonesia), the Pulu Village Community used funding from the Nusantara Fund to propose the Pulu Village Forest. The area proposed as a village forest is 300 hectares. Later, the village forest will be managed together, not only as environmental restoration and disaster mitigation efforts, but also to improve the collective economy through agroforestry.

The first thing to do is to identify and consolidate parties who can be invited to collaborate in submitting village forests. This activity also includes gathering support. Second, the Pulu Village Community also collects spatial data and identifies potential in the forest area. From this activity, maps and data on non-timber forest products are available, such as rattan, sugar palm, resin, bamboo, and medicinal plants. They also found potential that can provide environmental services such as hot springs and rivers.

Now, the people of Pulu Village have also succeeded in establishing the Pulu Village Forest Management Institution (LPHD). This institution will be responsible for managing forest products. The management of village forest products will later be directly felt by 2000 people in Pulu Village. In addition to increasing community income, village forest management also allows for the restoration of critical forest land that has the potential to cause disasters.
