The Soge and Goba Indigenous Communities Consolidate the Agrarian Reform Movement Through Education
In terms of advocacy for former Land Use Rights (HGU) land disputes, Indigenous Peoples face numerous weaknesses, making it difficult to fulfill their needs and customary rights. This is also the case for the Soge and Goban tribes, who are currently in dispute with a company owned by the Maumere Diocese. These weaknesses relate to their understanding of the law, human rights, and access to mass media. Indigenous Peoples also still do not see organizations as a place to gather, learn together, build mutual agreements, garner support, and protect and manage agrarian resources within collective territories. As a result, their movements are easily divided due to differing interests, disagreements, and a lack of organizational management knowledge, rather than strengthening the solidarity of their identity and movement.
Armed with the identification of problems faced by the Soge and Goban Indigenous Communities, assistance KPA The program focuses on enhancing the capacity of Indigenous Community members. Weaknesses in understanding law and human rights are addressed by organizing paralegal training and strengthening the ideology of Indigenous Community and farmers. The paralegal training is also intended to monitor cases of expropriation experienced by both Indigenous Community groups. Meanwhile, strengthening ideologies within the framework of agrarian reform will strengthen their struggle. Weaknesses in organizing are addressed by increasing the capacity of both groups in organizing. Finally, the lack of access to media is addressed by organizing campaign media. This way, Indigenous Community members can pursue writing and publications according to their needs and interests. These skills can also be used to write press releases to meet the publication needs of mainstream media.
The results of the training can be said to have strengthened the solidarity of the Soge and Goban Indigenous Communities. The paralegal training and strengthening of agrarian reform ideology succeeded in producing cadres capable of implementing case assistance practices and cadres who have a good understanding of agrarian reform ideology. The emergence of cadres who understand organizational management knowledge is a testament to the training's success. Meanwhile, the campaign media production training also produced cadres capable of journalistic writing. In fact, from this series of activities, the Soge and Goban Indigenous Communities also successfully consolidated their shared commitment by forming the Youth group.
