Strengthening the TRIGONA Honey Bee Cultivation Business of the Pro-Posoku Tamanjeka Community in Masani Village, Poso

The Pro-Posoku Community is located in Ratalemba Hamlet, Masani Village, Poso Pesisir District. In the Tamanjeka area, residents' livelihoods depend heavily on farming, growing crops such as coffee, durian, cloves, vanilla, cocoa, coconut, ginger, and other food crops. However, between 2012 and 2017, Tamanjeka was impacted by the Poso security situation. This situation made residents feel unsafe going to their gardens. This situation significantly impacted the family economy, as almost all residents' livelihoods depended on garden produce.

After conditions returned to normal in 2018, residents began to return to their daily activities. However, gardening was still insufficient to meet daily needs. This prompted several residents, along with the Community Empowerment and Community Empowerment Agency (LPMS) and the Pro-Posoku Community, to explore trigona honey bee farming as a supplemental source of income for their families.

Trigona honey cultivation is considered suitable because Tamanjeka's environment is supportive, with an abundance of garden and wild plants that provide forage for the bees. This business is already underway, but yields are still limited due to a lack of equipment, supporting facilities, packaging, and product permits. This impacts the quality of honey production and marketing.

Through strengthening programs Livelihood Trigona Honey Bee Cultivation: The Pro-Posoku Community, comprised entirely of women, aims to strengthen the businesses already established by residents. Support for training, equipment, and marketing, along with a NIB (National Inventory Management Agency) business permit and halal label, can help residents improve their families' livelihoods, open new business opportunities, and boost the Tamanjeka community's economy to grow more stably and sustainably. They have successfully harvested 2 kilograms from a pilot Trigona honey cultivation project and are expanding their colony to increase production. Demand for honey has increased with the NIB and halal label on Trigona Honey packaging. The Poso community has gained access to pure honey from Trigona honey cultivation for a healthy food source, as well as new income opportunities from the sale of high-quality pure honey to improve the collective economic well-being of families in Ratu Lemba Hamlet, Poso.
