The Contribution of Women Farmers in Aryo Blitar to
Economic Sovereignty of Farmers' Organizations
In terms of organizational achievements, the Aryo Blitar Farmers Association (PPAB), the Kelud Makmur Farmers Association (PPKM), and the Branggah Banaran and Tlogorame Struggle Farmers Association (PPP-BT) have achieved impressive results. PPAB has realized land redistribution in two locations. In 2011, PPAB successfully strengthened control of 238 hectares of land managed by 200 heads of families (KK) within a local farmer organization (OTL) in Kulon Bambang. PPAB also succeeded in building farmer-based economic independence by initiating the establishment of the Pawartaku Credit Union Movement (CUG). Likewise, PPK and PPP-TB have been working together for 20 years.
However, as is common with farmer organizations, these three organizations have also experienced ups and downs. A program is needed that can optimize the use of reclaimed land while ensuring the sustainability of the struggle. Therefore, increasing the capacity of members is crucial to support the struggle and organizational management. Likewise, increasing the capacity of women and youth members, in terms of ideology or the True Agrarian Reform Academy (ARAS), is crucial. The expected goal is for women and youth groups to support or contribute to the movement, organizational management, and acquire skills related to managing the production chain, distribution, and marketing of agricultural products, and livestock, so that economic improvement initiatives in villages can be inclusive.
The program implemented in the three organizations is to build the Advanced Agrarian Reform Village (Damara) as a member education center. There are 145 members involved in the self-help development of Damara. Education for female members is carried out both through the delivery of materials and direct practice through work on the newly built chicken coop and nursery house. The implemented program has had an impact on increasing the knowledge of female PPAB members regarding the organization's economic independence through Damara and the chicken farming business and nursery house. In terms of social aspects, this program has impacted 11.393 people. The breakdown of the total social aspect includes 4.312 men, 4.234 women, and 2.847 young people.
